Thorn Busch’s Small Operations Format. (UPDATED FOR 2008's GAME, DIM HORIZON)
Our scenario game is unlike the majority of other paintball scenario games. Since we have a much smaller number of players than
most scenario games, we are able to conduct more detailed strategic operations on a smaller scale. So if you are looking for a full
frontal 100 player verses 100 player war, this is not the game for you. The Small Operation System consists of two "Special Forces"
units (consisting of 10-20 players) that carry out "Special Operations". Every single mission is "Special" with a role playing game like
experience. This year the format of the game is very different. We have added many new elements in the game that can over all
determine who wins the game. Here is a list of all the elements that will be in the game. Some are old, some are new.
- Missions
- Starting Missions
- Envelope Missions
- Props
- Armament
- Field Kits/Player Positions
- Character/ID Cards
- Referees
Missions:
There are 2 different styles of missions. Starting Missions and Envelope Missions. Playing time will be divided up into four sections;
Saturday Afternoon, Saturday Evening, Sunday Morning, and Sunday Afternoon. Starting Missions are the first missions played during
each section. Envelop missions are the missions following the first, Starting mission. Each missions are worth Points. Whichever
team has the most points, wins the Scenario Game.
Starting Missions:
These missions are the missions that start off the sections of playing time. These missions have two objectives. A Primary Objective,
worth 100 points. And a Secondary Objective, worth 50 points. The Starting Missions and its objectives will all be individually and
thoroughly explained through a video broadcast. All Starting Missions are worth the same points. There will be 4 Starting Missions.
Envelope Missions:
These missions will follow after the Starting Missions. These missions only have one objective and will be given to the Team
Commander via envelope. The Envelop Missions will be given in code and will require simple decoding in order for them to be carried
out. All Envelope Missions are worth 100 points. There will be approximately 6 Envelope Missions.
Props:
Another way to gain points are to find certain props that are hidden out on the field. When a prop is found and if turned in to one of the
event directors, it is worth a certain amount of points. Some props are also intended for gameplay. For example, in a certain mission,
there might be a Kevlar vest out on the field somewhere. Whichever team obtains it first, is able to use it for the rest of the weekend.
All players will be told about all the props before the game begins.
Armament
Last year we used the credit system where teams earn credits per game and are able to buy items from the Armament. This year, we
are doing away with the credits and each team will start out with their very own armament. The Armament will have an anti-tank/pillbox
weapon, a Camera, Demolition Kit, Electronics Kit, and more. Certain items will enhance the chance of winning certain missions. For
example; If the mission objective is to blow up a bridge, using the Demolition Kit would be smart.
Field Kits/Player Positions:
The Armament has 3 different kits; the demolition kit, the electronics kit, and the med kit. If one or all of these kits are bought, the
player that has the kit then assumes the role the kit is intended for. For example; If a team buys a med kit and gives it to a player, that
one player’s position is now the medic. All other player positions such as, Sniper, Assault, and Heavy Assault can be chosen by the
team commanders at any time because none of these positions have or require Field Kits.
Character/ID Cards:
There will be Character/ID Cards that will be passed out at the game. On each card it will have your real name, your character’s name,
your characters stats, and your team name and logo. This will also give the game a more "Role Playing" feeling to it. These cards will
also be used if a player is healed by a medic and if a player violates a game rule.
Referees:
We will have referees out on the playing field at all times. 2 or 3 Referees will be out watching for those players who love breaking
rules and those players who don’t have a clue as to what the rules are.
